Jørgen Nash was a Danish artist and writer, influential in the Situationist International movement. Born in Vejrum, Denmark, he initially trained as a journalist before turning to art. Nash, the younger brother of painter Asger Jorn, was associated with the CoBrA movement and later became known for his provocative role in the Situationist International, which aimed to merge art with life and critique capitalist society.
In the 1960s, Nash gained notoriety for his radical actions, such as the 1964 decapitation of the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen, which highlighted his critique of bourgeois culture. He also founded Drakabygget, an artist commune in southern Sweden, that became a center for experimental art and countercultural activities, drawing artists and activists from across Europe.
