Albert Gleizes was a French painter and theorist pivotal to the Cubist movement. Born in Paris, he began as an Impressionist before shifting to abstraction and co-authoring the influential treatise Du "Cubisme" with Jean Metzinger in 1912.

Gleizes’ Cubist work featured fragmented objects and multiple perspectives while maintaining depth and structure. He used bold colors and dynamic compositions to convey movement. Beyond painting, Gleizes contributed significantly to Cubist theory, exploring art's relationship to reality and its spiritual and social dimensions.

Post-World War I, Gleizes moved toward abstract art influenced by Christian mysticism and a quest for harmony. He co-founded the Section d'Or group and promoted modern art in France and internationally.
