Pierre Louis Maurice Courtin, a French painter and printmaker, was born in Rebréchieu, Loiret. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Orléans and later in Paris, where he worked with André Lhote and met key abstract artists. Courtin exhibited his work from 1941, including at the Venice Biennale and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

He illustrated William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying and created engravings for various literary works. Courtin was a board member of the Salon de Mai and received the Grand Prix National des Arts in 1971. His work is represented in major collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the British Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
